NON-AMERICANS! What do you think of the American people?

I have asked this question before, but i am studying how other cultures perceive americans, so please answer only if you are living outside the us or have lived outside of the us for a long time. be honest and respectful in your answers. thanks!

Americans in my experience are:

On the plus side

Incredibly well mannered.

Very Friendly.

Helpful.

On the Negative side:

Very insular, their knowledge of the world outside of the USA is very lacking

Tone of voice is loud and brash.

Tendency to be arrogant

Now this is just my view and I do like Americans and stand up for them when people put them down, just get yourselves a good Encyclopedia Britannica and read up on the rest of the world, oh and don't shout everything

I am from America, but I can tell you a story that might help answer.

Many years back, I spent a month living in Belgium, as part of my job. While I was over there, I picked up some of the local languages, French, Dutch and Flemmish. Maybe a dozens phrases. I was able to ask for simple directions, or order lunch.

But the people over there saw that I was making an effort and were very kind and understanding. When we reached the limits of my vocabulary, they were more than willing to mix in English. Because I had respected them enough to make the effort.

At the same time, I watched many American tourists make no attempt at all to adapt or respect the local merchants, and many just assumed and demanded that everyone speak English. They were treated very differently than I was. Becuase they refused to make the effort and showed no respect.

It's simple lesson.

I think the American people are a mix of all cultures, but unlike Canada, it is not a tossed salad, but a melting pot. Corporations dominate it's land, and it's law has risen by war. The current government is so corrupt, poking it's nose in world affairs that does not concern it. As well, waging wars for "peace".

I think american people are like all people..some are good some are bad....but they are really kind and simple...and they speak their mind....i think they are smart but are not knowing what they should..i think they have problems but who doesnt...but in theri hearts most of them are like any of us...simple and nice:)(im not american at all)

I think they are kind. They are obsessove over my accent! I think they are gennerally kind and giving.
