don't bleach.
buy dreft, it's for baby clothes. less harsh, doesnt leave a residue, etc. and it smells wonderful.
they also make a sprayon stain remover that works GREAT on all kinds of babystains!!

Bleach can be very harsh on a baby's skin. It more than likely will break them out in a horrible rash. I use All Free and Clear (no added scents, etc, very safe for a babies skin) for my daughter's clothes as well as the rest of the families. I found that the baby detergents don't clean very well. To get stains out I use Totally Toddler that I found in the baby section. It's the BEST stain remeover out there.

Ivory Snow is a baby detergent, it doesn't contain bleach. Your aunt is probably right. There are several baby detergents on the market that you can use. Just use one, I used to go by which one smelled the best, and then wash them in the warmest water you can.

there is no harm in using bleach, rewash them in in Dreft or Ivory Snow if you wish, The bleach will disinfect the clothes and the second wash will surely remove any trace of bleach and your baby's skin will be safe . Congratulations on your new baby !

Yeah, you don't need to bleach them unless they're really badly stained; and you don't need to buy Dreft--it's pretty expensive. (It's a marketing thing. Dreft is fine, but there's no need for it.) Unless your baby has very sensitive skin, you can use the same detergent for her/his clothes that you use for the rest of your family. Tip (if you're interested): My daughter sometimes has "blow-outs" with her diapers, and the BM goes through all her clothes (can we say EEWWW lol), and I just presoak them in a solution of hot water and dish soap (like Palmolive) and scrub the stains with an ordinary dish scrubber...it gets the stain out and the odor too. Then I just throw the clothes in with the rest of the laundry--works like a charm. Hope this helps!

I wouldn't bleach them at all. Especially for a newborn. Just wash them in hot water and use a mild detergent like Dreft. Bleach can be too irritating on baby's skin. Same goes for bed linens for baby.

Ivory Snow isn't bleach, it's detergent. It's fine to bleach them, but make sure you put them through a double rinse. Hospitals bleach all sheets, blankets, t-shirts, etc. that newborns use immediately after birth.

I would not use bleach on a baby's clothes. I use Shout to get stains out and it works great. My kids havent had any problems with skin irritation.
