The "green board" or moisture resistant gypsum, was what folks used before they started making cement board... so, yes, you CAN use it.... but... the cement board is a much better product to use.
If you only intend for the tile to be up for a few years.... go ahead and use the greenboard... if this is a remodel you want to last a very long time... invest in the cement board.

you need to use the cement board over time the moisture on the green board will get wet and the tile may fall off at least with the cement board dose not have a paper face it is made for very wet situations

You can, but I'd use the wonderboard (or some cement board) as a backer instead, mainly because of the moisture in the bath. You'll be better off in the long run.

it is defiantly a must to have cement board ,at the very least, eight inches above floor level .
this answer is from my husband who installs tile for a living.

Yes... it can be done but you would have to use what tilers call a FLOATER first and then the tile onto that
