I've got a rabbit that's has a shock..it escaped the latch in it's pen and the neighbours dog chased it round the garden..He seems to be panting and isn't moving as much as usual...will he be ok or do i need to go to the vets with him?

Oh...poor bunny!! How terrible....not to mention how you must be feeling. It's never easy when something like this happens. You're rabbit is definitely in shock. Keep him in a semi-darkened room (about how dark it is towards dusk...right after the sun goes down over the horizon line). He'll feel safest in that level of lighting because he'll be able to see the best. Keep him warmer than normal and keep the room as quiet as possible. Make sure he has access to fresh water and that he's drinking. The largest danger right now is in him getting dehydrated. If he's not drinking within a few hours, get him to the vet ASAP! Don't worry about pellets or anything else other than fresh hay for food. Give him a day to calm down first. Most of all stay close to him and reassure him. Sit by his cage and talk in a very soft calm voice to help him relax. After a few hours of relaxation, you should see an improvement. As long as you see him improving, there's no need to worry. If you don't see an improvement, take him to the vet without delay! Hope he's okay!

Ive had the same problem. First you need to know that fright & shock can kill a rabbit (that's probably what this is). Their hearts & metabolism are SO fast that they can literally be scared to death. Observe her carefully. Will she take water or food? Has the shaking stopped or slowed down? Calm her, comfort her but not too much. She may feel better in her pen where she feels safe or in a smaller surrounding so she can hide. Check CAREFULLY for injuries & watch her BALANCE. Does her head sag on her shoulders one way or the other? Can she walk properly? At any rate this could be dangerous & she should see a vet ASAP. Good Luck!

He'll be okay. I had a rabbit that my cat chased and he did the same thing and was fine once he calmed down. Probably just jump started his heart a little so make sure you cover up the pen/cage just a little to give him some time out so he can calm down. Tammed Rabbits are not used to excitement like that so they need quiet and darkness for a short time.. probably a couple of hours. Dont let kids/pets or yourself near him for a while and then be really gentle with him while holding him.

Your bunny is in shock. He will probably be OK. Keep him inside and wrap him in a nice soft blanket. Hold him and see if he has any responses. Make sure he gets plenty of water. If he doesn't seem better in a couple of hours, call the Vet and see what he wants you to do.

put him in a cool, quiet and darkish area... make sure he has plenty of water and then just leave him alone for a little while... he should be okay in a few hours... a rabbit that has been chased will not have a stroke, but rather a hear attack and in rabbits heart attacks are always fatal... so he didn't have a heart attack...
