my rabbit's right eye wouldn't open last weekend, and today I noticed the same eye was bloodshot and a light gray-blue color (her normal eye color is dark brown). Does anyone know what this means or can help me? Please don't just say to go to a veternarian, because it's sunday, so no office is open. I'm really worried and would be glad for some explaination. thanks for your help- Sadie.

Cubby is eating and drinking as normal, and she lives in a rabbit hutch so there are no wood chips or cage shavings so I don't think something scratched her eye. And she is only 4 years old, so I also don;t think it's from old age.

Could be an eye infection or something. I really don't know. Probably nothing you can do until Monday but give it lots of fluid & keep him/her comfortable. Good luck.

This is not uncommon in rabbits. It could be a medical problem or she could have been injured, but you're right this is urgent! An old fashioned remedy or soother is boric acid...make some weak tea, cool well & gently apply. Meanwhile, there must be sites you can visit for professional advice until you can get him to a vet (he must go asap of course).I had a book once titled "What to do until the veterinarian comes"...ask for animal emergency care sites or call your pet store for a med to get you by until he sees the vet (is your vet familiar with treating rabbits? Many aren't & only see dogs & cats) Good Luck!

It is possible that she has an eye infection, my dad says it's like a yeast infection in the eye. Rub a little bit of any cooking or olive oil over the rabbits eye and it will take care of it. You should still call an animal emergency line; there should be a 24 hour service where you live.

Hmm, it doesn't sound good. Usually for any animal or even humans, when they go blind it turns light blue. So possibly ur rabbit might have gone blind. Is it old?
Even if it isn't, perhaps like wood shaving got into it became extremely irritated and infected then became blind.
Go to the vet tomorrow!!

Just relax. Make sure that her surroundings are the same as they have always been. Meaning, make sure that her food and water is full, make sure that she has a very clean cage. Hold her, comfort her, maybe even try to give her a bath. Just relax and stay calm. Sorry to say it but tomorrow morning, take your rabbit to the vet right away!!
Hope that helps!! Good luck!

She might have gotten it poked by something, she might be getting cataracts or an infection... it's hard to say without seeing her. If she will let you, you might try putting a warm damp washcloth over the eye to sooth the eyelid, and maybe put a little polysporin on it. Then when your vet office opens, you can take her in, and tell them what treatment you gave her, and they'll tell you where to go from there.

She may have scratched her cornea, you might try flushing it with a saline solution (can get contact saline at Wal-Mart for $1.97) and possibly put a dab of Triple Antibiotic Ointment in there until tomorrow go to Vet. Poor baby.

You should really bring your rabbit indoors. They face so many problems out side liek , predators, flystrike, hypothermia and heat stroke. Being sick and outdoors will not make it better and you shouldn't give them cedar shavings. You need to visit these sites.

OMG, i hope its eye is not severely damage. take it to the vet and see what they can do about it. meanwhile let it sit in a blanket and somewhere comfortable, and use a tissue to dampen the eye with solution.

My first guess is trauma, something poked her in the eye. If that's so, there's nothing to worry about, she will get better on her own.
