It may be a wind up plastic duck or an electronic duck. I am sure that this arguement is the reason that ducks who believe it stop at places where they see dummy ducks/duck decoys thinking if one is there sitting calmly then it must be safe for me to be there also. Personally I think we have brains larger than ducks and more experience to say there may be other possibilities here.

Hmmm if it acts, walk and quacks like a duck it may be a duck imposter or maybe some other species related to duck !

Sounds like a rational progression to me, it would be highly likely the end result would be a duck.
