Yes. We fight wars to protect the interests of the United States. Although the immediate cause of the Iraq war was not oil, we would not care what happens in Iraq if we did not need oil.

An appropriate question this near the anniversary of the WTC attacks. No, I think we are there to draw the terrorists out into the streets of Baghdad rather than let them come here again. Oh, you DID mean the war in Iraq not Afghanistan right? Those are BOTH wars and are still on going. For some reason the guys dieing in Iraq get news attention in great detail while any dieing in Afghanistan are quickly forgotten.

No, we're in a war because our President needed a scapegoat, and he didn't want to threaten the people who bred the terrorists. The majority of the people responsible for 9/11 were Saudi Arabian born and bred, yet America has had relatively decent relations with that country. Our president feared dealing with that that country; they are too powerful. He is not a fan of any of the methods that would successful curtail terrorism such as education programs that assure literacy, sharing wealth to end starvation so we don't develop large international pockets of people looking jealously at our wealth and how we don't share it, and via diplomatic activity, so we have accurate information about the neighbors around us; none of these are flashy enough for his "Big Sky Texas" mentality. So he invaded a country who's power to affect the outside world had been defeated ten years before in the hopes that America would be dazzled away from seeing how the real problems aren't being taken care of. And it worked, sadly... Now America's problems are ten times worse than they were five years ago, nothing has been gained, we've encouraged terrorists worldwide to rally against us because they've seen how we don't go after them (and of course, how we now do exactly what they said, waging war on their soil without cause) and the president doesn't care because when he's got a dozen bodyguards and hundreds of yes-men keeping him from the sad state of the world.

This is what happens when we elect men like GW Bush, who are so proud of not being informed. He is, after all, very open about not listening to news or reading the paper because he has people to do that for him. It's that lack of concern that makes me not like him.

everybody will have different opinions but the was the press and Bush say so we aren't, my guess is that Bush and the rest made up some reason like terrorists, since we dont officially know if it was Iraq who got us on 9/11,and so they are fighting because of oil. our troops are there more so protecting the oil wells then the people!

The only thing nastier than war are the events which precipitate war. Those events are usually a display of selfishness and greed that is a long way from pretty. My war was Viet Nam, and I found out that the true cause of that one was the CIA running opiates. Sad, isn't it?

It all depends on your political viewpoint and only President Bush knows for sure. Personally, I think Saddam had been an idee fixe on Bush's part since the First Gulf War.

No.
Do you know what happen on September 11th, 2001? Although oil is a piece of it, it is not the whole reason we are at war.

Yes President Bush was planning to invade Iraq before the September 11th attacks and was considering two very different plans about what to do with Iraq's oil.
