Why don't you look at it as a scientific experiment and practice picking your nose at least once a day for a month or two. Then get back with us on the results.....k?

The skin and muscle around the nose is particularly tightly packed. To compare, try stretching out your nostril in comparison to stretching the skin around your stomach. The reason for this is that, like the ear, the nose contains primarily cartilage, which is a "bendable" form of bone. It degrades much like normal tissue (which is why you don't see noses on skulls). The entire point of it is so the limb in question, the nose, stays in a constant shape designed to aid it's use (i.e. picking up odurs). The only way to change the shape of the nose is via surgery or through severe trauma, such as an accident. The worst problem you may have with nose-picking is a weakening of the skin on the inside of your nose, which may cause more nosebleeds. Our noses naturally "grow" slightly over time, as to our ears, hands and feet. Compare the size of your hands with that of someone in their late-70's on and you'll see the difference. So a nose will become larger through life naturally, but not from picking it.

I have observed obsessive nose pickers have larger nostrils (not noses) as they are constantly stretching them. What many people do not know is that the nose and ear lobes continue to grow throughout life so the potential for you to misshapen your nose by putting your finger in it exists.
If you pick your nose you are cleaning a portion of your nose. Blowing your nose is much more effective in the long-term as this expels the mucus deep inside the nose that eventually forms the hardened ____ that would require picking. If you need more help, taking a kleenex and twisting it into a cylindrical shape and using it like a cork screw in your nostril is gentler and just as effective as your finger.

Hard to answer this without seeing the nose. Try asking your friends and family. They may lie to you and tell you you look fine the way you are. Ask your little brother or sister or a niece or nephew, maybe-they don't know any better than to tell the truth, yet. Most nose jobs a pretty safe, from what I've heard. Still, do your research before picking a plastic surgeon.

My two-year-old daughter (who is no longer a baby) has been picking her nose for a few months. Instead of just explaining to her that it's gross and rude, etc. (she reasons very well, for the most part), I tried another tactic when I was changing her diaper before lunch and she was either picking her nose or biting her nails. (I don't recall which.) I just told my husband that Elizabeth didn't want what she asked for for lunch because she decided to have her nail or boogers instead. Usually, that works and all we have to do now is just look at her when she is doing it. Sure, we still have to scold her at times, but overall, it's been effective. (We also use it for other things, i.e., we tell her that she doesn't want to do [insert activity here] because she would rather bite her nails, pick her nose, enter other uncooperative behavior, here.) If it doesn't work, we have to "help" her by taking her finger from her mouth or nose. (If she goes for her toenails, during diaper changes, we just tickle her feet. However, she quit doing that a week ago when I was trying to keep her feet out of her mouth so I could change her diaper and she was being defiant, even by trying to kick me until she rolled off the table. It happened too quickly for me to prevent it. Sometimes, it takes one fall for them to learn.)

Being a veteran nose-picker, I can tell you that it will not stretch out your nose. The worst that has ever happened to me was I was picking my nose and then I sneezed. That was pretty gruesome.

It is gross, but I don't think that it will stretch your nose out. It might give you nose bleeds if you pick too much.

Nose picking doesn't have any side-effects unless you put your finger through your nosetril and touch your brain. So better Watch out dude...

One side effect is broken or chipped teeth from trying to get the little buggers out from under your nails. (Notice I said Your nails)
There was an episode on Marcus Welby once where this old man had a nose bleed and they asked him if he picked his nose: I loved his answer he said Just enough to keep it Respectable.
