I wouldn't charge for my babysitting. I guess I think of it more as a favor than a job. I do however pay my niece to watch my kids. I just give her a flat amount of $20 if I am only gone a couple of hours and $40 if it is more than that. She has never complained.

If it was an occasional babysitting job, no I wouldn't. (e.g. if my sister went out to the movies Friday night and I watched her son) However, if it's going to be a full time job (e.g. watching the child for your relative during the week on a regular basis to avoid putting the child in daycare) then yes, I would. My mom watches my two sons (2 1/2 years and 14 months old) Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we pay her $200 per week. I know this isn't much, but she wouldn't accept any more than that.

I have never charged for babysitting in my family. However when my sister babysits I pay her £15 for the night and her taxi home. For the money all she has to do is watch TV and make sure my house doesn't burn down. My children are always in bed before she comes.
My sister is 16.

Is this often? Is it immediate family? I wouldn't charge, but i would probably never commit to keeping someones kids on a regular basis. If for some reason they needed me to keep them regularly, then it would depend on how close they were to me and what the situation was.

No, I wouldn't charge but I do pay my parents to watch our 3 children $100/wk plus food money (20-25 hours/wk)

My mom used to babysit my baby. From like three months until she turned two years, everytime I went to school, from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. I payed her 50 dollars every week. Thats good because if I had taken my baby somewhere else they wouldnt charge me so cheap. It really depends on your family, because my mom sometimes got mad if I didnt pay her.

I think the only time I would think about charging is if it was on a consistent basis...weekly, daily, etc. And it could be for money or for something else

My sisters sometimes babysit Johnny, and they charge us. My parents don't, though, and neither do my fiance's parents. I give my sisters anywhere between $8 and $6/hour.

depends on how often or long they babysit but if it's just once in awhile just buy them lunch/dinner or give them gift cards for a restaurant or teenager a clothing place they like

I would not charge unless it was preventing me from doing something that I would have gotten paid for otherwise.
