"Like a moth to a flame" is an old saying that is used as an analogy to describe how one person is attracted to another person -- drawn to them -- like a moth is drawn to the light and heat of an open flame.
"Burned by the fire" implies that someone got too close to someone they were attracted to and got burned, or hurt, in the process.

A moth is drawn to bright lights, so if there is a fire a moth will fly into it.
"like a moth to a flame burned by the fire "
Means even though she knows she will be hurt she still is attracted to a man.

The moth is drawn to the moon. It sets its direction by the moon and it is instinctive. When alternative light sources were developed the moth lacked the ability to discern the true from the false. Initially it flies toward the moon then redirects itself to locations around that perception. Because light bulbs shine the moth is attracted to it but as the moth continues toward it the bulb gets bigger and closer as it approaches. Usually the moon stays the same size as the moth gets closer due to it being so far away. This new occurrence to its experience ( meaning that the light comes closer as opposed to staying the same size) peaks the moths curiosity and it goes toward the source rather then giving up as it usually does with the moon.
The moth lacks the genetic experience to know what to do when it actually touches the light it has always sought. So it just flies around it until it exhausts itself in the effort. Its life is thus spent flying around a false source of light which it was never created to seek. Does this experience sound familiar to us?????

Ahh but the twister is: does the moth know the flame will incinerate it and yet still cant resist the pull? Or is every "moth" burned only in hindsight?

The thing that you desire most will be the end of you. the moth is attracted to the bright light and will kill him/it when he gets too close.
