My father's family is from the south and calls it #3
My mother's family is from the north and calls it #1
I've lived around both and was terribly confused for a while when my father's mother would say let's have dinner and I'd expect the 3rd meal of the day, then I find out she meant the 2nd meal of the day... blah.
Over the years mine has blended between #1 and #2
Sometimes I'll say dinner, sometimes I'll say supper... but the first two are always breakfast and lunch. I hate that "dinner" is "lunch" stuff.
