My sink is somewhat clogged from beauty products I've been using that are very creamy. I've got an older house (about 25 years old) and I've heard that products like Drano can screw up your pipes. What can I do without getting a plumber involved?

Try pouring a 1/2 cup of baking soda in the drain. Follow with 1 cup of vinegar. Let this foam until through. Meanwhile, put some water on the stove to boil, about 4 cups (or in the microwave.) Pour the water down the drain after the soda and vinegar gets done foaming. Follow with hot water from your tap. Each week, put dish washing liquid (I use Dawn) down the drain and follow with hot tap water for 10 minutes. This should keep your drains running clear at all times. My house is 140 years old and I do this every week. I hope this helps.

If you have a old house make sure not to use powder soaps . Use only liquid soap because the power will reharded in the line especially a washer machine .

Ocaisionally, boil water on the stove and dump it down that drain. With cleaners, the "hot" will melt the grease and get it flowing.
