Well if this is really, Rowling - I don't see how you couldn't.

His curse is part of the problem. As long as he is around, so IS the problem... But maybe he could come back somehow free of the curse after death.

No. At least, not completely. Harry Potter is who he is. The surrounding environment/community/world that he actively participates in potentially holds the potential that he will live forever...even in spirit form.

Also, killing off this character completely will possibly make the last book very disappointing and will might lessen the classical value of the previous books-but I might be speaking out of terms.

If there is an end to the series, maybe the focus should be on answering what is its conclusive message?

HI,

There is two very important reasons not to kill Harry in your next novel.

The first is that many children never even had a desire to read or pick up a book before Harry arrived on the scene. When your first offering was published children wanted to read. You were able to make them understand what a wonderful world existed in books. While there are no studies that I am aware of, I personally, am very sure that you increased intelligence, grades, and quality of life for many children around the world.

While all my first reasons are of utmost importance, my next is what can keep the world going. Harry is hope for many children and adults. Our children see war, famine, dishonesty, murder etc. They play video games that echo these actions and watch tv shows that do the same. We need hope, and not just the children. Harry is hope. He overcomes adversity with intelligence, morals, and hope. He shows that these attributes are cool and that makes people want to be like him. In this age of so much strife it is imperative that someone like Harry survives, that we see that good will overcome in the end.

Please dont kill him off - my kids would have a real problem with that.

Personally I'd like to see him settle down with Hermione living under an assumed identity as the Muggle proprietor of the bookshop in Chipping Sodbury High Street. It seems the least the magical community could do to compensate the poor lad for what he's had to go through.

How about a spot of memory modification for Harry to forget his past? Might be nice to think of him "sleeping" like King Arthur ready to answer England's call. Maybe he might choose love over magical powers. Its incredibly trite I know - complete cop-out - but at least its a cop-out with a pedigree and would be popular with the South Gloucestershire Tourist Board.

Best of luck.

if this is really JK Rowling... firstly well done on the series
secondly it would be a nice feeling if harry lived after the darkness and sadness of all the books and generally of his life. but then it would make a bigger statemnet about his sacrifices if he died ... seeing that you are such a good author i think you already know what you want to do ... this is just to get some idea of where the fans are at, right?
i would feel very happy if Harry and Ginny got married and had children ..... but i would respect him and more for giving his life.(and i think so would Ginny)..
If that ancient magic holds then by dying for them he might be saving the whole of the wizarding communty from the Avada Kedevra.... i think i am just hopeful!

Harry needs to live to carry on the fight for good, and to continue the legacy of Dumbledore. I know that the original series wil be over, but there could be so many more books about other characters--the Weasleys, Hermione, Hagrid--I would like to have more about all of them.

Supposing you ARE the author of Harry Potter and not just some crazy fan, I would say yes. Some people jut must die sooner or later.

No, it isn't neccesary. The prophecy is up to interpretation, and it doesn't mean that Harry has to die. She only considered it because she didn't want people to start writing sequals to it after she dies, which they could do anyways, even if she did kill him off.

For sure, one of the most private and secluded people in the world has really decided to come onto Yahoo, give "her" identity and ask our opinion for the ending of a world that she has personally created and molded for the past 16 years..... Geesh...
