History will always repeat itself. What is old is new and what is new is old. It is like that in all genres of music. Rock, country and rap. The direction of rock and rap for a phase is very serious and almost political driven. The next phase people will get tired of the seriousness and have fun. From NWA to Hammer. From Hammer to Geto Boyz. From Geto Boys to De La Soul. From A Tribe Called Quest to Krs One. I know my references are very old school, but I prefer the older stuff I guess. I am not a fan of the current wave of popular mainstream rock or rap. I do not care for the G-Unit generation. If everything will go full circle in music than i am ready for a true revolutionary in rap, like the NWA family (EazyE -Bone, Dre-Snoop-Warren G-Nate*see213, Cube-Westside connection) I cannot really say much for Yella or Ren. Tupac was another great revolutionary. There will always be a new generation to talk about living in the projects, material possessions (cars, houses, jewelerye etc), ho's and bootys, politcal corruption. You know the saying that the best athletes are the ones the expose themself to other sports to improve their all around performance? I feel the same thing applies to music artists as well. The best hip hop artists don't just listen to rap. They appreciate jazz, motown, some rock etc. That is why Cee Le Green (formerly of the Goodie Mobb) is in one of the most successful acts of the summer, Gnarls Barkley. He is an open minded artist. One of the reason's Dre is a masterminded producer is that he looks at the Big picture of the music he produces. That is the reason Dre has lasted over 20 years in the industry and not fell down once.

I'll answer that by asking you a question...20 years AGO when Run DMC and LL Cool J and Beastie Boys and other pioneer rappers were starting out, did rap sound like it does now? I would expect rap to change as much in the next 20 years as it has in the last 20 years. EVERYTHING changes, thats the nature of life.

Of course it will be different. Haven't you listened to any rap music from 20 years ago? All music will be different in 20 years. Listen to some Run DMC from the 80's and you'll see how different rap music is from that now. That will give you an idea of how different it will be 20 years from now.

In 20 years, rap music is going to sound just as stupid as Disco does now, only worse.

probably different. Think about music from the 80's, Does it sound the same as today's music? Music is changing everyday. Or at least that's what I think.

Do you seriously try to compare rap with rock? which will live on and on as it has already proven in the last 40 years!! Don't make me laugh, rap will be lucky to survive another 5 years if you ask me.
