I think the key is being old enough and mature enough to choose a tattoo that is not going to be something you regret later in life.
I guess I don't know anyone who "frowns" on tattoos or if I do, I've never given a rat's behind that they did. I didn't get a tattoo to please anyone but myself.
However, ALWAYS get your tattoo done by a reputable tattoo artist at a reputable tattoo parlor! They must ALWAYS use NEW needles and NEW ink!!! Watch them, they will usually open the little ink trays and needles in front of you!! Your health and safety must ALWAYS come first!
Goddess Bless!
p.s. I don't care what anyone else says, they HURT. It feels like someone is dragging a very sharp needle across your skin just deep enough to break the skin....and it goes on for a VERY long time, especially if your tattoo is more than just an outline of something.

WEll....I am 54 years old and personally I think it is a matter of personal preference as to whether or not you want a tattoo. I don't like them and would never have one but I have a 19 year old daughter who has one, is in the medical field, and it is where it will not show when she is in uniform. When I was young people with tattoos were the bikers and sailors but we used to paint our bodies and our faces during the '60's so who is to judge and tattoos are not definitive of trashy people. My daughter is planning on getting her doctorate, has a four year scholarship, is in her junior year at college and has been on the Dean's list for the past three years.

I never heard before that Buddhism banned tattoos. But some images, whether tattoos or graphics or painting, are not allowed to the monks to see, to share or to make - generally these pictures are about causing distaste, sensuality, violence and about untrue - which oppose the works of monks to do. There are people from different cultures in which people tattoo different ways. I don't think Buddhism is culturally sensitive.

Because a lot of people stereotype tattooed people... (why is that ok but other types of stereotypes are not... but anyways) I could care less if my doctor was tattooed or not... I would be more concerned that he/she knew what they were doing... how many non tattooed Dr's don't...lol You are planning on getting them in areas the patients won't see so I wouldnt worry on that....

I do not know why. They have been used since the earliest time to show your class in society. Or your clan that you came from..They are not trash or from low class people...That is just ignorance! People who say that are just to stuck in there own ways of believing life should be as they want it and no other way
Sorry one other thing. It might have to do with all the infections or diseases people use to get but do not because of the stricter guid lines

I'm going to show you why a tattoo isn't a good idea, rather than give you all the usual answers. Ready? Go to the toy store and buy a package of Silly Putty. When you get back:
roll the Silly Putty into a ball and press it into a small cartoon from the Sunday Funnies. Then hold the slightly flattened ball by one edge and hold it up in the air in front of your face. (Stay with me here - I AM serious! - ) With your free hand slowly pull the S.P. downwards...the same direction gravity takes our skin..... understand?????

if you wanna do it then do it, i used to think it was a bad idea, i used to work in a nursing home, it was not pretty, lol. but i recently realized that tattoos or not, u will still get old and your body will still do horrible things to you, so if u want to then go for it, it is your body and your life. a short one, i might add, and when you are dead and in the ground do you think anybody will give a rat's *** as to whether or not you had a little ink?

it is your body so do whats best for you. get it if you want one. people always have some thing to say about every thing you do. my sister told me when i first got my tattoo that i defiled my body and i looked at her sack of weed and said your defiling your body with weed. to each his/her own because you have to live with it no one else. i worked with doctors they are people also who where not always doctors. go for it, those without sin cast the first stone.

Tattoos are ugly and get uglier with time as the colors fade and turn into that nasty dark green color. They are permanent, too. If you want to be a doctor, I would advise not to get them at all. They do sometimes show through clothing. Tattoos show a self destructive behavior similar to people who cut themselves only more visible and they don't usually do it to themselves.
