i have1997 zx6e that i bought a week and a half ago. ive rode it amost every day. but the day before yesterday it blew the hose that comes off the radiator . i replace it and put 50/50 antifreezeand i rode it yesterday and today. i noticed that it started overheating. it spit out antifreeze from a little hose that comes out of where the antifreeze is stored. and it sounded like it was boiling... could that be a head gasket problem? what could it be??? help me..im a newbie in motorcycle riding nevertheless fixing it..........

i forgot to meantion that it only overheats when on idle when its running the temp seems fine.

you need to remove the radiator cap after you fill it and run it untill the thermostat opens......watch the coolant circulate until all the bubbles are gone.....check to see if it is at the proper level top it off......if that isnt it then check the thermostat itself ( they dont fail often but it happens) or if the fan is kicking on ) my 05 zx6 comes on at 203 degrees and kicks back out at 185. If the cooling system is constantly "pumping" air into the system while you are watching it then that would be a blown head gasket to the cooling side. good luck

I like the previous answer, but another possibility is that there is air trapped in the system. Many cooling systems, bikes and cars, need to be bled after being opened up.

Does the fan come on when it over heats? That's probably why it's fine when you're riding it.
Check the thermo switch (fan switch).
Check if the fan motor works.
