I appreciate everyones advice , the best way to undo windows updates is through the add/remove programs..Fortunately I found out that my problems were actually caused by my security settings , I had them turned up too high , and my firewall program(ZoneLabs) was blocking downloads , exactly what I told it to do , plus my XPAntiSpy was refusing ActiveX controls , I just had to turn it all off , and try my download again , which then worked , then turn it all back on , I'm ok now , but still dont trust microsoft...Thanks again.

Many windows updates can be rolled back by uninstalling them in the add remove programs window. When you first open the dialog window check the show updates check box.

These problems you are experiencing are not Windows Update issues.

I'm not clear about exactly what your problems are because there is not enough detail in your description.

The first thing you should do is run an antivirus and anti-spyware programs you have. You might have some malware problems there. Never say no, they are pretty sneaky these days.

The next thing you need to do is to defrag your PC on a weekly basis as a minimum and run the disk clean up utility also.

Depending on how many programs you have on your PC you could have lots of things running and you won't even know it.

Check out the answer below that I provided recently here in Yahoo Answers.

Lots of things can affect a computers performance and one of them is poor maintenance by the owner. Most people do little to nothing to keep their PC's running smoothly. Give the things I mentioned in my response at the URL above a shot. You'll most probably see some real improvement in your PC.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like you can atleast get into start, settings and add/remove. If you can get that far, remove what you can of all the critical updates.

There will be some critical updates that Microsoft will not allow you to remove.

Sounds strange as I have run every platform that Microsoft has and never had this problem.

Plus you did not say what platform you are now running in your system.

If you are 100% sure you don't have a trojan virus in your system, I don't know what to tell you other then use the search engine and find antivirus websites that allow you to run a free test of your system.

This may be your problem and not your critical updates.

If you don't have any antivirus program running at all, I use in my opinion the very best in the world. Used by the Government of China.

Here are the details below:

Being a clinical psychiatrist I have a moral and legal obligation to keep my pc 100% clean from all virus/spyware/malware.

I tested every free and purchase antivirus system known. An I found only one that actually works 100%. Never had a virus or spyware in my system in nine years.

Go to, www.filseclab.com and download thier Twister AntiTrojan Virus program. (You will have to pay a small one time fee). You will never have to pay an annual fee for updates, support or new versions. The one time fee is for life. ($29.99)

The software company is located in Beijing, China. They have excellent support, frequent large signature updates an as always all new versions are free. No annual fee for anything.

Comes with a real time scanner that really works. Actually I am quite amazed over the nine years how well it works.

Scans memory on startup.
Real time scanning in the background.
Open any webpage with an embedded trojan/spyware or malware and scanner will clean on the spot. An It is really removed from your system.

Download any kind of program from zips, compressed files of all types, software files, music, etc, etc, an if there is a hidden embedded trojan, spyware, malware, this program will stop the download and clean. An will advise you to end the download.

Will even find a virus in the installer wizard, like "Wise Installer". And will stop the installation while it is being installed and clean. Plus this program always will trace back who installed the trojan.

I had a trojan in and wizard installer. Twister caught the trojan and stopped the installation. I wrote the origianl company and told them the wizard installer had an embedded trojan to steal your data. The company now uses thier own installer.

You can't beat this software for a one time purchase fee only. Actually I don't know of any antivirus progam that even comes close to this state of the art technology.

All I can say it is worth the one time fee. Your pc cost alot of money and you don't want it destroyed. Plus your privacy is protected at all times.

There is nothing in it for me to praise this program. I tell it like it is. If it is garbage then I will say so

If you find that the problem is actually caused by a virus, be sure to reinstall all of your critcal updates.

Hope you have a valid key, as Microsoft checked my pc X 4 with their "WGA", just for one update before it was installed.

If you have WindowsXP go to Control Panel click Ad/Remove Programs, at the top of the window there should be a square and next to it written Show updates. Click on the square, and all the updates will appear in the list, then try to uninstall.

without an operating reinstallation then I'm afraid there isn't anything you can do.

System Restore will not work. If you had norton goback or a similiar product installed then you could have taken your system back to the prior point however if that wasn't installed at the time there isn't anything you can do.

Incidentally any updates from Microsoft could include critical updates which will need to be installed as not doing so leaves your vulnerable to exploits.
