Here are some books you might want to look into...
Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer. A great, sort of dark, vampire story.
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass. Will make you cry!
The Goose Girl or Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. Both are great, though Princess Academy is for younger readers.
Uglies by Scott Westerfield. Great science fiction.
Don't Die Dragonfly, by Linda Joy Singleton. Awesome book about a teenage psychic, relatively short if that's what you want.
A Great And Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. Gothic rocks.
Cobwebs by Karen Romano Young. Creepy spider story, but very good.
One Of Those Hideous Books Where The Mother Dies, by Sonya Sones. A tear-jerker written in verse.
Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Dragons, magic, etc, all written by a fifteen year old!
Leap Day by Wendy Mass. Not quite as good as "Mango" but still a fun read.
The Sight by David Clement Davies. If you love wolves...
Fire Bringer by David Clement Davies. Another great animal fantasy.
Finally, why not head over to a local bookstore and scan the shelves yourself? Never know what you might find. Hope I was able to help in some way.

The Giver by Lois Lowry for a weirder/darker read.
For historical fiction try Crooked River OR Trouble Don't Last by Shelley Pearsall.
Still historical fiction, The Teacher's Funeral or Here Lies The Librarian by Richard Peck.
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine for fantasy.
The Hobbit by Tolkien or perhaps The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
For nonfiction, The Girl With The White Flag by Tomika Higa is excellent.

HI,
If you would like to do a book report on a great book and impress your teacher with your taste and social awareness then I have have the book for you. It is called Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin. It is a factual story about the author and how , in 1959, he used treatments to darken his skin and travelled around the south posing as a black man. He wanted to see how it truly felt to be black during these racially troubled times. I read it at your age and I have always remembered the book.

There is this great Author, Tamora Peirce, that is a great fiction writer for girls. She writes mainly about girls in a middle age time period who become knights and kick some butt. most of her books are only 200 pgs long, and very amusing. She writes and a 8th grade reading level, and keeps a light casual tone to her writing.
Meg Cabot is also a great Author for young girls. You can also find alot of her books on tape, she will make you laugh and get excited for and with the hero.
Best of luck
