Think of it using this analogy.
There are currents and patterns in any large body of water, like an ocean. If something is just floating along, without any propulsion, it will be carried by those currents and end up going a particular way.
If something moves on its own, or if some external force moves it, then the currents will have less of an effect, and possibly no effect on the final destination. But the currents are still there, as an influence. And routes that follow and utilize the currents will take less effort than those which fight against them.
Astrology and similar models define the spiritual and esoteric currents and influences that the world around us has imprinted. We can ignore those influences, and potentially fight against them. Or we can be aware of them, and utilize them to make our choices. Or we can do nothing, and be carried along by them.

I'm a Leo and i don't like to "party and dance on tables".....i actually don't like to be the center of attention unless I'm performing.....some of it is true, some isn't.....i like I've met several Aquariuses....and they all seem to have an issue with lying. Libra's that i know are crazy, loud and fun to be around....Capricorn's men typically are very close to their mothers.....Virgo's can come off as being mean....Gemini's well, they have split personalities.....etc....
