You have to log in to check your email so other people can not read it. You have to log into certain websites because the webmaster wants to collect information about you, and this is the cost of visiting that particular website.

So your e-mail services is sure it is you, checking your mail.
Would you allow anyone to walk up to the mailbox on your home and look at your mail?
If you are having trouble viewing certain websites, check your security settings.
