Admin's advice is sound. However the free antispyware tool
Ewido includes a setting to disable it
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ewido/
pro version reverts to free version after 30 days

Download and install; in the main window click on Tools> Antispy
Expand services, put a tick in the box marked "Disable the Windows Messenger Service"

You are talking about the grey window that pops up when you get a netsend? You dont need a download. Right click My Computer and select Manage. Expand Services and Applications at the bottom and select Services. There is one named Messenger that allows those popups. Right click it and disable it, reboot.

If you are using Windows XP, there is no need to download anything. The solution is quite simple and offered by Microsoft themselves ;)

BTW, be very careful when it comes to downloadinf 'free' software! They may contain trojans, viruses, spyware and much more.

hi, i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. which is most powerful in popup blocking.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

Aren't you using Yahoo toolbar? Is is "enabled"? If not, click the down-arrow and select "enable pop-up blocker."

If it is enabled and you are still getting pop-ups, click the down-arrow and select "Why am I still getting pop-ups."
