Wise ol' owl is right. You need to absorb the odors, not cover it with scented candles and so on. It is probably not the bird or fish that are causing the odor - most likely it is mainly the hamster. (We have had all three of those pets.) So focus on the area of the hamster cage. Put the vinegar close to the hamster's cage. Charcoal is also an odor absorber so place charcoal under furniture and so on. Buy a couple of boxes of the baking soda refrigerator deodorizers and place them in inconspicuous places in the room. Use baking soda occasionally on your furniture and carpet - let it sit for a while before vacuuming.
You may want to consider changing the type of bedding you use for the hamster (site included).
These sites may be of some use to you. Best of luck with it.

Your floor is probably the culprit, unless you have drapes in there too. Birds omit allot od feather dust and rodents just have an odor...no way around that. Vacuum the drapes, and or wash them often...and vacuum the rug/ hardwood and clean it...mop the hardwood, or steam clean the carpet. What goes up, must come down, your floor is probably trapping odors. I also leave windows cracked a bit during the day. And open wide on weekends when i'm home...

Try putting a fresh bowl of white vinegar out, about 8 to 10 ounces should be fine. It actually absorbs odors. Since you are keeping the animals, you will need to change the bowl often EOD. (Every other day).
Or you could saute the bird in garlic and butter. Never mind.

Try a dehumidifier. They are great to rid the humidity out of the air and materials surrounding your space.
Humidity holds odors.
I have four dogs, and my one room smelled horrible. But the dehumidifier took that all away.
It also great for mold smell.
Give that a try. It's not the cheapest remedy, but it works 100%
Takes the smells out of the carpet, curtains, padding under the carpet and so forth, and it won't hurt the animals!
Hope that helps.
Good luck!

You sound as if you have been doing all the right things.. You might try using scented candles (if no pets or kids are around to upset them) or.. a bit pricey but FEBREEZE is great
