You need a farrier to look at him. If its environmental, like from being in wet grass and soil the hooves get wet then dry and can crack. A stress fracture from being over worked maybe an abscess, from improper shoeing. It could be a multitude of things. This could be serious and needs immediate attention. Letting this go could mean lameness for the rest of his life.

Is the crack horizontal or vertical? If it's horizontal get him on some suppliments and if it's a deep crack try not to put too much weight on it until it improves, just in case it's serious.

If the crack is vertical, make sure it doesn't crack up to the base of the foot (coronary band). To help the crack you can pack the horses foot with wet clay and keep the area around the watering trough wet so when he stands to drink he gets his feet soaked.

Some people don't have a farrier or vet or don't have enough money to cover the bill. This is the least inexpensive way. I wish you the best of luck with your horse!

Some cracksare surface cracks and are no big deal but some run deeper and need to be worked on by your farrier.
If your horse is not lame or sore the next time your farrier comes have him check it out.
If the horses is sore at all get the farrier out soon and have him checked.

call a ferrier or a vet. They will give you some kind of ointment to put into the crack so it will eventually pull the hoof together.
No riding it!!

Well you should call a ferrier out ASAP, in the mean-time you should put hoof heal on his hooves or rain maker.

regular hoof maintenance. Trim often and feed a good feed with BIOTIN. Nutrena feed is the best

Call a farrier and have him shod. Lanolin is a good preventative.
