...if there is one, how many different kinds of welfare is available? Do you only get gov't assistance if you have a child?

depends on your situation. but, yes, you may qualify even if you do not have a child.

shame on you judgemental jerks! you don't know this person's situation. i have worked with 18 year olds that had situations that they've endured at other people's hands that you couldn't even begin to have had the strength to get through! before you go around passing judgement, take a look in your own backyards. i'm CERTAIN the rest of us would have plenty to discuss and get after you for!

no, in order to receive welfare you have to be showing some sort of greater need for it. There are tons of 18 year olds who don't have children and are financially unstable, if the government catered to all of them, they'd be broke. Which is why the only way you can get financial help without a child at the age of 18 is by attending school; and to get more money, proving you are independent.

I know where i'm from homeless people get welfare. But they have to be in a Shelter or the Salvation Army.

The gravy days are over thank god,just having kids don't do it either,you got to be in the gutter to get assistance.

I thought they ended welfare back in the 80's.

If you are disabled where you can't work then you are eligable for welfare and food stamps in most states.....
But be prepared to prove your case.....

if ur in school and a full time student depending upon ur income u can get food stamps :o) u have to go to the children and families office
