They have just started to scratch the surface of stem cell research. It would require decades of nothing but complete failure do get people started on giving up on the idea. I seriously don't see complete failure as even a possibility as we often learn more from our failures than from our successes.

On the contrary, I heard a news report just yesterday that says scientists are having some success at collecting and cloning the stem cells of a patient himself (whether adult or not). It just remains now to figure out the best way of introducing them into the body to fix the problem (as in knitting together a severed spinal cord). They interviewed a group of paraplegic ball players who are very excited at the possibilities.

Stem cell research was set somewhat back when the fraud of this Korean guy was discovered. Nevertheless, stem cell research has the future. It will be back. And outside the U.S. Bible Belt it's not controversial.

From what I know definitely no. The regulations are promising, but, because the promise of this research is so great, scientist are still very interested in the subject.

I don't think so, they can still do this in other countries, or they could be privately funded, so Nope
