The importation of illegal drugs into the United States is like the 3rd largest source of income for Mexico. I'd say if you're worried about your individual liberties, sober up/clean up, and ponder the fallout of having to build a prison system large enough to prevent a hostile foreign takeover of our country...

The War on Drugs has done nothing but soak up millions if not billions of dollars and the problems still remain. It needs to be either completely done away with or totally revamped and geared more toward hard drugs. We'd be better off to legalize marijuana and collect taxes on it. You get rid of the criminal element and not tie up courts and jails with personal use offenders.

I wouldn't say it's a grave threat, but I can see how the effort could encroach on liberties at the extremes.

There is no war on drugs. If there were the trade would have significantly been thwarted. The government via C.I.A. use that propaganda to hide the tremendous amount of money made from illegal trade.
Do not kid yourself that government is for us. It exists by any means possible for itself.

Yes and no. Our rights are only really supposed to stop where another's begins. Also American laws are supposed to protect us from others-- not from ourselves.
However-- do you know many people that pay much heed to the "war" anyways?

Who's liberty?
I knew a recovered addict.
He had to steal 5 TVs every day, 7 days a week, to support his habit.

Yes, there is no reason that we should allow the consumption of alcohol and not allow the use of drugs. Besides, there are plenty of more important things that the police force could be doing than busting drug users.

I say no - you give up your rights when you commit crimes, and drugs are illegal to own and sell, are they not?
