Why does this exclamation keep coming into my head, and where did I learn it from? Maybe I made it up.

This question has two thumbs up ratings. I know this is looking a gift horse in the mouth, so to speak, but, why?

Probably because you don't want to say s*** on a stick, which is an oft-used remark ( at least I know I use it as a remark).
Example- " He ain't worth s*** on a stick".

In the UK often seen in a finger buffet served by the unimaginative hostess - diced (cubed) cheese on a coctail stick - usually cheddar often with a bit of tinned pineapple on the stick as well - as a taste sensation it rates virtually 0 out of 10 - never heard it used as an exlclamation though

Very likely colloquial, (maybe the group that used it was very small, part of a family), but if I were to guess, I would say that "cheese" is euphemism for Jesus, morphed from "Jeez", and on a stick would represent the crucifixion. Therefore the entire phrase would be a "cleaned up" swear word/phrase.

Bet you heard someone say it frequently when you were very young, but who has not been in your life recently enough for you to recall.

Here at home, cheesy or cheezy means someone who is a fool; sounds like you are on to something....

Sounds cool! Use it, and see if it catches on!

(I like to say "Holey Cheese" then laugh to myself about Swiss...but that's just me.)
