Dia is Muire duit, Anne R, sure, to be sure but like the millions before me, I had to leave the old country and make my life on foreign shores. I still return but find it a very different place from my youth. It seems to me, and I do not begrudge them the fact, that they got rich too quickly over the past fifteen to twenty years. Even if I decided to return, it is highly likely that I would be unable to afford a house at the prices now being asked - and paid - in and around my native County Wicklow. I'm from one of the Lines, eight generations away from Donegal; my Tribe still referrs to itself as Irish; not one Irish last name amongst us all. What a strange hold the place has on us.
