how about randy? Also, a nickname need not derive from his given name. It can be something about him, (or s/t that will become a family joke in the future.) Dont worry, Just enjoy him, and a nickname-if not many-are sure to soon follow.

I think Ricky is cute (and Rick will be good when he outgrows Ricky). Richie and Rich are good too.
Dick is right out, given today's culture.
Andy and Drew are cute, but I think it is confusing for a kid to realize that he has been going by a name that is not really his name, when it comes time for school. Some schools and teachers are strict about nicknames.
My sister's name is Cathy - that's what it says on her birth certificate - but her 1st grade teacher had her so upset because she wouldn't have nicknames in class and told her that her real name must be Catherine or Cathleen or something else "so you go home and find out what your name is" she was instructed.
Unless you plan to use his middle name on all of his important documents as his first name, I would not use the middle name for a nickname.
Peace!

What is your last name maybe it could be either R or A and the first initial of your last name (if your last name started with a C it could RC or AC..) Since all my other ideas you mentioned were not a option, or why not wait till he's born and come up with one then, I know my hubby calls my kids "squirrel" not sure why though. But with the names you have chosen they will be shortened and it will be one of the names you said you didn't like, if these names bother you then you need to tell people his name is Richard and not allow nicknames, or his name to be shortened.

Call him what you name him...why give him a name and then call him by nickname? I have never understood why someone would do that...if you dont like richard then dont name him richard. if you're gonna call him rick, dick, andy, drew, or whatever then name him that...at least thats my opinion on it...

I would opt for calling him Richard. It's such a strong name. Think of "Richard the Lion-Hearted," a strong and brave King of England. You could even decorate his room with lions.
Are you sure you don't like Rick? It's not all that popular now, but it's very masculine and sexy.

I personally like rew, but why not wait and see what he's like when he is born. I mean I have a very origanail nick name becasue of something cute I did. It needs to be meaningfull. It would be a good idea to wait and see what he does/ or what he's like and then find one that really fits.

richie? . . if u dont like the typical nicknames that come with the names u have chosen, u might want to reconsider his name . . . or just make up a nickname that has nothing to do with his real name . . .

I think that nicknames usually come from the person's personality so I can't help you there since I don't know him.......His nickname may not end up coming from his actual name, you know what I mean?....But something will stick soon.
Good luck!
