Take a look at the Austin American Statesman Jobs online to see about jobs near Austin...

Cedar Park, Texas or Leander, Texas are NorthWest of Austin and are growing rapidly. Leander Independent School System is a good one too (covers both Cedar Park and Leander).

It depends on what you're looking for. Austin is a fairly peaceable place to live, and its economy is healthy. Since the university is there, and the town is not overgigantic (like, say, Houston), it has a smaller-town feel but offers lots of cultural activities and whatnot. Plus, it's affordable. Houston is affordable too, but it is a sprawling mess with a decrepit downtown. Although Houston has plenty to offer, it wouldn't be my first choice (I lived there before).

Austin is attractive, friendly, diverse, and all that good stuff.

Any of them except inner-city areas of the five largest cities and Irving.

The absolute best is hard to choose. There's a small town of about 4,000 named McGregor, south of Crawford and west of Waco. They have this good restaurant called "The McGregor Cafe," and folks are really friendly.

Farther down Highway 317, just outside of Temple, there is a small town of about 15,000 called Belton. It's about 90 mintues south of Waco, 2 1/2 hours south of Dallas/Fort Worth, and 60 minutes north of Austin. Very friendly place, it's a small and charming town.
