Religion is when people believe in some superior supernatural power, usually on faith rather than through logic.

Morality is the philosophy of right and wrong, good and bad, and explains what people should do and what they shouldn't do.

As we know, there are many people who are religious but not moral, and many people who are moral but not religious. So they're obviously not the same thing.

That is an issue still under discussion. Is morality based on religion or is religion based on morality? I hold that the two are inseparable, since they both involve overlapping issues. Unlike David Hume I believe morality can be based on rational discourse, what is right versus what is wrong. Morality actually addresses issues of actions by human beings that can be considered right or wrong depending on your position. Religion, however, can be a basis for morality, helping people to determine what morality to follow. Your moral position can determine what religion you choose. I believe the similarity between the two is greater than the difference.

Morality is a social apparatus by which someone can live without feeling guilt on their actions either from others in the society they live in or themselves from the upbringing and personal goals that they have obsorved over their life. Without a society there would be no morality, nor would a human raised without parents or others have any morality that we ourselves would recognise, though the best means it lives would be considered moral. In our modern world it is moral to pay taxes, not murder anyone or steal because those actions are looked down upon by society because they harm society, which relies on people not doing everything they wish for the good of everyone and enjoy society's benefits.

Religion is an ancient means of instilling morality by giving a supernatural reason for morality and crafting it around a theological society or one dependent on the church to spread it's rules and the morality that grows from it. It is also depends on a reward for morality that goes beyond the real world or a punishment for immorality that goes beyond society's means or inefficiency to punish.

Morality is being a good person outside of any particular system of belief, rather than being a good person because you are a member of some particular religious group.
Any one can be good. You don't have to have a religion to be a decent caring person.

Religions, on the one hand, are social activities undertaken by human groups concerned with finding individual salvation through worship in the belief that they are the only and most valued creation of supreme deities who love them. Morality, on the other hand, is a set of rules and values that people chose to live by in the belief that living by them they will help them and others who belong to the same social group to live in safety and harmony without intentionally or stupidly harming themselves or each other. Religion is the process of the self to transcend from darkness to light or form ignorance to intelligence while morality is the essence derived from the process of change. The problem is we are making morality as a law and not the outcome of change of the self from ignorance to intelligence.

morality is a set of rules...that determine what is good and what is bad. Although, not all theories claim that morality is fixed.. thus it cannot be called a standard.
Religion on the other hand.. is a set of morals combined with beliefs of impalpable concepts.
