Apart from Mike Olddfield's 'Tubular bells' and tubular steel, I've heard that word used before- it basically means' good' or 'great' I believe. Its recent usage might originally be from skaters or have been used to sound like skaters language (a half pipe could be called a tube).

Also, having seen aa later post, I am sure that it is also to do with the way a good wave curves like a tube- 'tubular man!'

Anymore, yeah. Its pretty old slang, dude. Some slang words stand the test of time. You will probably still hear people say "cool" 100 years from now, (or not). But "tubular" was too surfer specific and never caught on as more than a brief fad. This is the fate of most slang words. How often do you hear anyone say, "Bully!" LOL

How very retro, I love the word tubular and it should be brought back, we need tubular coffee tables and lamps again, lets get tubular.
