You know those little scrolling green bars that how how far something has loaded? Well, they've disappeared . How do I get them back? My operating system is windows xp home

Presume you mean Status Bar at the bottom of the page?
Click on View and make sure that the Status Bar is checked, et voila..... there it is!

goto start, control panel, performance and maintence, look at the top left, and see: "system restore" try that.. or... on a webpage, goto tools, internet options, advanced, "restore defaults". g-luck
