Why does my laundry cycle take close on 1 hour in the UK. When the USA cycle is about 20 Mins.

Top-loading machines in the US use a huge amount of water. Often the slower machines are front-loading and use a modest amount of water. They get the clothes clean but it takes a long time.

Front-loaders in the US are just as slow as those in UK.

Are you using a front loader in the UK and a top loader in the US? Front loaders take much longer since they use less water and don't agitate the clothes like the top loaders do.
