There are 167 episodes. Sadly, the anime series ended as of Sept. '04. The series was adapted from a Japanese Manga (comic book) which is still being released. There are also 4 InuYasha movies. I haven't seen the final series episodes and it's tough to tell if they decided to bring a definitive end to the story since the original Manga is still being made.

the amount of episodes are too much to keep track of! there's just so much but what i do know is that the latest episode ever is where sesshoumaru's mother comes in and poor Rin dies. hopefully sesshoumaru will find a way to bring her back to life coz in that episode, sesshoumaru is not in pretty good shape over her death. oh and kikyo is dead so i guess as people are dying off in the show, it's coming to a close end as naraku already needs only one more shard to complete the shikon no tama jewel. the episodes are to finish but there's a rumor that the maker of inuyasha, rumiko takahashi, wants to make at least 100 episodes more before the series is actually over. i do hope kagome gets a big part in defeating naraku though
