If you want to win you have to have a good player at every position. Each player must give 110% each game for a good team performance.
If you only have good midfielders and forwards you can score goals but the other team will also score as well. So in a situation like this the chances for winning are not so many if you don't have a good defense.
If you want just to keep a draw it's good to pay more attention to the defense, but no defense is unmistakable. Still the other team can score while for your team is difficult because there are no good forwards.
So, a team must have a good goalkeeper, good defense, good midfielders AND good forwards.
In my opinion though, the most important thing is not to have the best players in a team but to have the players that can make the best team. In the field they have to play and cooperate as a team and not individuals.

No One and Everyone.
The Goalkeeper is the last line in defence but even the best ones can't do anything much if his Defenders don't help him out. The defence will buckle if the Midfielders don't control the ball in midfield. The team is unlikely to win if the Attackers don't score, and they are unlikely to score often if there's no one on the pitch to set them up. There's no use for the Attackers to score a dozen goals if the the Goalkeeper and Defenders doesn't keep two dozens out. If one player doesn't show up, the others will have to work extra to cover his role.

There's a chain effect. The team can only be at its best when all the players in their respective positions perform. So, there's no one singular role that can be described as the most important, though its mostly the Attackers and Midfielders that bask in the limelight.

Everyone. You can't do without a single one. Each has to operate, so that the others can do their job (saving, scoring, defending etc).

It's like your little finger. It appears insignificant and does not appear to do as much work, as the index finger or thumb. However, if it was cut off or wasn't there, the whole hand cannot operate properly.

You need all 11 on the pitch, take away one, your opponent has a man advantage and a gap from which to exploit.

You need a player who has the talent to be a play maker like Ronahldinio or Luis Garcia..those players are the real makers of victory...Other positions in the field are important too but those magicians can finish the game in one touch

they are all equally important, in my opinion. firstly, you're going to need a goalie to save shots or else your team will lose. then, you're going to need your MF and FW to create and score goals to get your team on the winning side. You're also going to need your defenders to rally against the opposing team and also snatch up lose balls and feed them to your MF'ers.

its the defense.........dats becoz a team with a tough defense may at least save a team from actually losin the match.....while bad performance by midfielders or strikers doesnt necessarily lead to a defeat...........thus having strong, fast and tough full backs would enhance the teams performance..........
