In America we are influenced directly by mass media,for most people they create values,because for most Americans media serves as the cultural village of socialization,because Television has replaced,family,friends and community.So naturally being human people are looking for a voice in their lives,unfortunately that voice is coming from the media.

At present, they are largely responsible for creating them.
That is because most people nowadays choose not to think for themselves, and instead just take what they hear at face value. So, of the people being creative, whoever repeats their message the loudest and the most often will influence the most other people.

well you might think they create them, but then if people were not interested in what was being created then you might determine that they follow
I think they follow the basic needs of consumers and then create a desire for a particular style or design for example ipod. the need for a better, smaller, more efficient music device was not created, only the IPOD format
