It seems no matter what TV news channel you watch, the message is the same. No real in-depth reporting, just mouthing platitudes about how great the US is and how we should defeat the evil Muslim world.

The media realizes that the average person doesn't really do in depth investigation of most topics so they understand the dynamics of sensationalism. They understand that the average person will believe anything whether it be on television or in print. It's a fact. They depend on the vast majority of shallow minded individuals to do their bidding. That's why I got out of the business years ago.

First, I disagree with the arrogant statement that ONLY THE IGNORANT can be manipulated. Even well educated people were misled by Bush's lies and the way the TV media reinforced them. It is obvious to anyone that American news media are simply mouthpieces for the current administration. I see no attempt to ferret out any truths, to question our motives for being in Iraq, to question the 9-11 coverup (and trust me, there is a tremendous coverup).
News media is supposed to be totally independent. check Fox news to see what appears to a Bush apology every day.

In a way, all media manipulates the public....to a point. There aren't many whole truths in the media that are told to us, and that is why there are also so many different news stations. Only the ignorant can be manipulated. Use a variety of sources to check your references and you shouldn't have anything to worry about

Definitely. Manipulation is a human trait, a means of controlling the thought process of others for whatever adgenda they might have. We have to be able to recognize when we are being manipulated so that we and not others can be in control of our own lives. It's the old "leader/follower" story.

oh for sure. Living in Canada and watching the same story on CBC as opposed to CNN. You get a totally washed down version on CNN

Of course. We are only shown what the govt. wants us to see. And anyone who believes that the news/media is not linked to govt/politicians... should wake up and smell the coffee.
