I think that slavery was a horrible way to treat another person, however, like you said, no one living today has had to endure it. I, for one, am tired of hearing people complain about it. The nerve of people to ask for restitution, and or an apology, is amazing. Slavery is in the past, yet there are people today who still try to get compensation...and for what? It's history, and although it was a shameful part of history, it's just that. I have never enslaved anyone, nor have I ever discriminated against anyone...so why do we still have people wanting and needing an explanation for something that they have no true understanding of since they've had no real experience with slavery.
I do agree that it was wrong no matter if they were sold or taken. There is no justification for what happened, but it did. It belongs in a history textbook, though, not in the present.

I don't want to sound rude but I am not white. My skin is not white. I prefer to be called Caucasian. I think that slavery was completely wrong. If anyone in my family had slaves back in the days of slavery then I would be ashamed to be in my family. No one deserves to be held against their will. I agree with you that it doesn't matter whether they were sold or taken. It is still slavery and it should never have happened. It is something that I think our country should be ashamed of because they let it go on for so long. I just hope that not as many people are racist because I know some still are. I also hope that someday there is no racism at all.

I don't know anyone who even remotely tries to justify slavery...of any people in history (and Africans were not the only people to be enslaved). There is no justification for it, even looking at supposed "economic" reasons. Enslaving another is morally wrong. Period. I can't even believe anyone today would argue this....We should not forget the past, of course, but we should not dwell on the crimes of our ancestors, either. There is blame to share, and it gets us nowhere.

I been asking this same question. I see on here all the time that when the issues of slavery is brought up. Some say "it was the Africans that sold other Africans in to slavery". As to justify slavery here.
But name me one African that sold others into slavery? Can they prove all Africans brought here were sold if any. Yet I can prove that most if not all blacks brought here was oppressed.
But that's not the only justification I seen for slavery. I seen that...
"they would still been slaves and treated worst in Africa"
(yet who said all blacks sold were slaves or mistreated yet if treatment was so bad in Africa why are their countless stories of them wanting to go back?)
"slavery is still in Africa today"
(then where? Just because it happen in one place in Africa don't mean all on that continent practice slavery.)
"Lincoln was the one to free the slaves"
(if so why were blacks still oppress 100 years latter, and marching for freedom)
"we where all slaves at one point or another"
( So that means it was ok for blacks to be, would they still say that if we put them in slavery today???)
"many white people died for the freedom of blacks"
(yet many blacks were oppress and died for their own rights, very few whites died for the freedom of blacks. Because a few died for their rights now that overrides a lifetime of oppression most if not all blacks face).
"If they wasn't here they would be starving in poor Africa"
(who said all ppl in that CONTINENT is starving, poor, a sicken with diseases, and that this is how all Africans live? Yet, what would America be if not from slavery? What would Africa be if Not for colonization? What if???)
"You are not slaves anymore, and better here than Africa"
(400 years of oppression now when this nation stop oppressing blacks, We should credit whites as hero's! Because they decided to stop oppression. That's like thanking a bully because he stop beating you up)
"no one in my family tree own a slave"
(yet 90% of the oppression the black race face was not by slave owners. But racist, No One have to be a slave own to be racist or a oppressor, like Hitler. EX Jim crow, segregation)
Their is no justifacation of black slavery-- America didn't have to keep blacks as slaves. America didn't have to oppress them. Name one African or slave who endorse the murder, hate and mistreatment of blacks? It was America who chose to legally oppress the black race, no one esle.

I totally agree, people who try to justify slavery don't have a clue of what those people had to endure. Some people are simply misinformed or raised to think slavery was okay but they are wrong. We can only pray for peace and understanding.

Same thing with women in some other countries. They are treated as 'less' than the men. It isn't right for any human to degrade or mistreat or demean another human no matter what race or gender.

I have not heard anyone trying to justify slavery. And, this is the truth.
Racists come in all stripes. It is not confined to white people. Black people can be just as racist, and they use the same techniques to justify their hate.
