In the U.S. we really have some dumb laws like allowing people to be over 90 years old to drive, WITHOUT taking a driving test every year. That's dumb! What law do you think needs to be changed? Or what laws need to be added?

More than 1 DUI suspension for a whole year! IN Il at least!

After school programs to help kids that are not doing so well in school.

Children should be awarded to the responsible parent of sound mind and not always to the man or the woman.

Children should have the right to pick who they would like to live with (in a divorce case)

There should be a law saying Everyone should be respected in High school and taunting and belittling should not be tolerated by teachers.

People who sexually abuse children should not be in jail for only six months. They should be punished harder, maybe 10 to 12 years in prison or even life sentence.

Women should be paid as much as men for doing the same job!

I personally think, if it were up to me, I'd start with drugs. I'd like to "enforce" more laws concerning drug trafficking and selling and use of any and all drugs. Get the dealers and the pushers off the streets and behind bars for, in my opinion ,they are no better than a serial killer. The children in this country are being corrupted by them, deaths and crime can be traced back to the drugs these people have used on their way to the criminal acts they have committed. If we had tougher laws concerning drug screening in job applicants and college bound students and child-rearing, not a one time screen, I mean random screening, I think the use of street drugs would lessen. If laws were tougher for the users then maybe a dominoe effect would take place with the selling, distribution and trafficking of these illigal narcotics and with a drug free country the crime rate would decrease.

YAY!! A CHANCE TO USE MY CONGRESS SPEECH FOR DEBATE!!!

A bill to require chemical castration of repeat sexual offenders.
I'm going: CON

This is a negation to the bill to require chemical castration of repeat sexual offenders. Forced castration may have the adverse effect of angering the pedophiles, Depo-Provera is reversible, and it causes side effects.

Before I begin, let me tell you a little about Chemical Castration. Scientists have observed a link between testosterone and aggression. They have concluded that high levels of testosterone correspond with violent and aggressive behavior in men. The drug Depo Provera, when given to men, acts on the brain to inhibit hormones that stimulate the testicles to produce testosterone. Advocates for chemical castration hope that injections of the drug will prevent men from molesting children. This, however, is not the case. My first conetntion is that Depo Provera being forced onto convicts may have the opposite effect we hoped for, and anger the criminal. Even though his sexual drive is no longer there, his anger at the system for forcing him to undergo this procedure will make him molest children. Actually, sex offenders who are chemically castrated still commit sex crimes. It's not the sex drive, it's an obsessive power thing that's causing them to do what they do. This applies to both rapists and pedophiles. It's in their heads, not their reproductive organs. That's not true for all of them, but it is for a great number.

My second contention is Depo Provera is reversible. Therefore, unless injections of the drug are administered mandatory, and the molestors are monitored to make sure they take them, sex offenders will not be cured byt he drug therapy. As soon as they stop taking Depo Provera, the offender will have renewed sexual fantasies and high levels of testosterone once again. A man named Joseph Frank Smith, a convicted child molestor, became an advocate for chemical castration after he underwent the procedure in the 1980's.In 1989 he decided he was cured and no longer needed the injections. In 1999, he was convicted for molesting a 5 year old girl and immediately taken to prison.

My third and final contention is that Depo Provera has side effects, and thus, we cannot force anyone to take it. Some side effects include depression, fatigue, diabetes, and blood clots. Because of this, forcing them to take it even when there are risks is inhumane and should not be done. If someone is forced to take this and contracts diabetes, it is the eqivelant of forcing someone to get diabetes.

To conclude, chemical castration should not be forced upon anyone. If it is used by the convict of free will, I completely am in favore of it. However, we can't force them to do anything. It can anger the pedophiles, Depo Provera is reversible, and it causes side effects, some of which are very serious. I urge you to vote negatively on this bill. I now yield for questions.

They need to abolish all victimless crimes. The US has 2.5 million people locked up, thats equivalent to every man, woman, and child in Chicago behind bars. That is more than any other country in the world. And it costs $40,000 per inmate per year. Half of the people locked up are in on drug charges, meaning they never actually hurt another person, just themselves. Its stupid, its too expensive, and its wrong.

I bought a book called "Stupid State Laws", but the most ridiculous one in my opinion is that in New Jersey and Oregon, you are not allowed to pump your own gas.

In California:

Animals are banned from mating publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship.

In my home state of Illinois:

Law forbids eating in a place that is on fire.

It is illegal to give a dog whiskey.

It is forbidden to fish while sitting on a giraffe's neck.

Kites may not be flown within the city limits.

In the Pullman area, it is illegal to drink beer out of a bucket while sitting on the curb.

My favorite: It is legal to protest naked in front of city hall as long as you are under seventeen years of age and have legal permits.

There aren't as many 90 year old drivers as there are illegal aliens sneaking across the border to birth instant Americans.
