It all depends on your needs. Both are very good in their specific areas. If you live in a city with good streets and no need for high vehicles then your vehicle should be a car. But is you live in places where some asfalt is cracked, patched, o simply missing; or a place where you encounter high bumps then you should get and SUV.
If you only want style and performance then forget about the SUVs, get a nice car which has better handling and fuel economy.

I have a Jeep Liberty with a diesel engine and I really like this vehicle.

On a recent trip from southern wisconsin to Washington, DC I saw 29.7 mpg on the trip computer. That was with a 10% biodiesel fill up I made in Indiana. I was driving at 65mph on the interstate with the windows up and cruise control on.

This Liberty can turn in a smaller circle than many small cars which makes it a breeze to park, and can pull a 5,000 pound trailer if I want to.

The diesel is quieter than the engine in my 1985 Dodge Omni and it does not stink like a greyhound bus. It has some really great emissions controls that stop that smell and smoke we associate with diesel.

My 2002 Jeep Liberty with gas engine had 65,000 troublefree miles on it when I traded it in.

Depends on what you really need. Most people that own SUV's dont really need them. They just wanted the rugged look that a mini van or station wagon doesn't have.
