I was surprised that no one managed to list the most important reason that carbs are necessary in our diet. First and foremost carbs and sugar are converted to glucose which is the fuel our brains uses. Without any carbohydrates at all, either simple or complex, our brain would cease to function correctly.

Carbohydrates require less water to digest than proteins or fats and are the most common source of energy. Carbohydrates, like proteins, contain 4 kilocalories per gram while fats contain 9 kilocalories and alcohol contains 7 kilocalories per gram. Based on evidence for risk of heart disease and obesity, the Institute of Medicine recommends that American and Canadian adults get between 40-65% of dietary energy from carbohydrates.
If you do not eat enough carbohydrates, you will lose energy and endurance (up to 50%). You will also not be able to breakdown fat completely, which cannot only mess up your metabolism, but can also trigger health problems such as diabetes. Also, if your body doesn't have enough carbohydrates, it has a backup system: it breaks down muscle and protein into glucose to use for energy, thus deteriorating muscle. The symptoms can be: dizziness, fatigue, weakness, fainting, and possibly even coma or death.

First of all, you can't be diagnosed with high carbohydrates. Cholestrol and blood pressure can be high. But not Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are simple sugars, pastas, bread, and so on. Just cut down on your carb intake. You don't need to shut them out completely. Make sure the carbohydrates you're ingesting aren't from sugars, like in juices, and in sweets and so on. Complex carbs are fine, like in pastas and bread but you don't want to over do it. Check on line for healthy diets. Also, try to eat 5-6 small meals a day to boost your metabolism (a meal can be a banana and a yogurt). Good Luck.
