To encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo! Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. Levels are another way to keep track of how active you (and others) have been. The more points you accumulate, the higher your level. Yahoo! Answers recognizes your level achievements with our special brand of thank you's!

And finally, as you attain higher levels, you'll also be able to contribute more to Yahoo! Answers - you can ask, answer, vote and rate more frequently.

Points and levels help you keep tabs on how active you (and others) are on Yahoo! Answers. You get points for different types of actions, like answering a question. The more points you get, the higher your level.

You need 250 pts to get to level 2 and the best way to earn points is by answering questions and if you want to get quicker to an upper level, you better answer a question as best as you can so you can possibly be chosen as the best answer be given 10 points.

You can also vote for a best answer by clicking the "Discover" tab at the top which will give you 1 pt.

Keep in mind, asking a question costs 5 pts, but when you choose a best answer to your question, 3 points will be given back, so you basically lose 2 pts.

Answer more and more questions. Periodicly go back and see if anything you've answered is "in voting," go back, and vote for yourself. Sometimes this helps, sometimes this won't matter, because somethings I've answered have been "in voting" for months, so nobody got the 10 points for the best answer. Any time you answer a question, you'll get 2 points, so answer a lot of questions. You'll lose points by asking questions, though, which I don't understand why they do that in here, but hey, I don't make the rules!
