Get a microphone and find a tree at is about to fall. Walk away and let the microphone record when the tree falls that way you will know if it makes a sound. Oh and be sure know one else is within ear shot of the tree. Then you will have your answer.

Yes. The fall of the tree will create sound waves, the existence of which are not dependent upon the presence of anyone to hear them.

OK, it's time to put this one to bed once and for all.

The "Tree falling in the woods" cliche is a dreadful misquote of Heisenberg's principle which states (and I'm paraphrasing) that there is no such thing as true scientific method, because to observe an experiment makes the observer PART of the experiment - would the result have been different if (s)he hadn't watched? we'll never know.

BUT.....................

The true quote from the venerable Dr H's own mouth was:

"If a man speaks and there is no woman there to hear him, is he still AUTOmATICALLY wrong?"

yes it makes a sound because the tree is still falling at the same rate so if there was a person there they would here it if not all the animals int the forest would here it

The question should be does it make a noise, and the answer would be no, however it does create sound waves, there's just no-one around to "hear " them. Just like we are constantly surrounded by tv/radio waves but without a receiver you wouldn't know they were there.

Yes

No, there will be no sound. Sound waves will be produced but these have to hit a diaphragm of some sort (microphone, eardrum etc) for them to be converted to sound

This is very old hat and was considered intelligent by those who held Zen Buddism in some sort of awe.
