I am a New Yorker whose whole life was ripped wide open on 9/11, having lost family members and suffering the eventual disolution of my marriage because of emotional distress brought on by the attack.

Yet, I don't see that our experience is more poignant or more important than that of the people in countries torn apart by constant violence. That includes Afghanistan, Palestine, Israel and Iraq (countries directly affected by American military action).

I had thought that our experience on 9/11 would make us more sensitive to the daily horrors our country's military inflicts on other people. Where is our heart?

I'm sorry for all you have gone through since 9/11 and I won't even pretend to understand what you have suffered through.

The US is a very young and very self-centered society. Most people think that the world revolves around our own country and many people don't care about what is going on in the world. If you look at the news broadcasts, about 1 to 2 minutes of time are designated as world news. The lead story on the news might be the continued hot weather across the plains, even though some other country in the world is recovering from a horrible landslide that killed 250 people.

Our country's heart is where it's always been, right here at home, caring more for ourselves then anyone else in the world.

US has any heart?I didn't know. And dont tell me to belive that US actually has heart. If they had, they could not do all these things they have done and continuously doing.
US is taking the revenge of 9/11 by killing Middle East, Afganistan people as they are "ants". 9/11 didn't hurt US's heart, it hurt US's arrogant ness. So, for 2,900 innocent people, they have already took 41 thousand (minimum)innocent Iraqi lives in Iraq, 250000 innocent people in Afganistan. Sudan, Jordan, Iran and other Middle East country is still in the row.
I feel sorry for you knowing about your family and marriage. I have heart. I feel apologetic for not doing anything against the violence of prolong 50 yeras in Palestine, and recent Middle East crisis, war by US, Isreal.
No wonder US dont feel the same. No wonder US is still in search of their hurt. We pray they will find their hurt very soon. Otherwise, who knows, I may become a victim of its wrath.

First of all you never take more or less than what the doctor prescribes for you. If he ordered Tramadol for you that's because two weeks after surgery you shouldn't still need a narcotic and Tramadol may be somewhat weaker of a drug but it still will be effective. I was prescribed Tramadol and took only 2 the first day. I didn't like the way it made me feel. I refuse narcotics and the doctors call me stubborn. I would rather be in pain than take them....all they do is make me sleep. What kind of life is that? You didn't say what kind of surgery but your doctor is just trying to ween you off the Vicodin. Good luck!

I have a huge problem with the media using it to sell movies sell TV shows there marketing 9/11 and it is just plain sickening. I refuse to watch any movie any manipulative TV shows intended to use peoples emotions to sell soap . The American people are NOT represented by Madison avenue sleaze mongers and what they put on the news is not what is in the hearts of the American people.

Anytime something happens to us personally, it outweighs anything that happens to anyone else because we are all basically very self-centred. This is a basic human quality and not a moral value judgment. Those who can rise above this are the exception.

Go ask the Dem's. They are the one that like to continually/hatefully rip open wounds. If they thought that it would help them win an election, any election, they would cut off your foot and feed it to you.
