Walking home just before a thunder and lightning storm one night, i saw 2 strange white spheres the size of a coconut float and seem to be suspended in the air for about 10 seconds before they hit a nearby powerline, when they broke up into 8 smaller golf ball size spheres before disappearing.
Has anyone else seen this strange phenomenon?

That's ball lightning. I've never seen it, and it's the subject of much contention about how it's created, but you'll be able to find numerous articles on the subject if you do a search.

This is possibly ball lightning. It reportedly takes the form of a short-lived, glowing, floating object often the size and shape of a basketball, but it can also be golf ball sized or smaller. It is sometimes associated with thunderstorms, but unlike lightning flashes arcing between two points, which last a small fraction of a second, ball lightning reportedly lasts many seconds. There have been some reports of production of a similar phenomenon in the laboratory, but some still disagree on whether it is a real phenomenon.

Yes, and it was unforgettable. I remember reading a poem by Robert Burns in which he says,"Oh would some power the giftie give us; to see ourselves as others see us."....this is from memory so it may not be verbatim, but you get the idea. I've often wondered how I look to other people and I got my answer, if only for a split second. I was walking into a store once and I happened to glance upward and saw this picture of someone who looked vaguely familiar. In a flash it came to me that I was looking at myself on a video monitor. It was a real shock because for that instant I was an objective observer looking at my own appearance. I looked different from what I thought I did. It was a revelation and, as I've said, unforgettable. It was also enlightening. Burns was right: "It would from many a blunder free us and foolish notion; what airs in dress and gait would leave us....."

Yes ball lightning, my aunty saw it once about eighty years ago, she had to fill in a survey form. Nobody else in the family has seen it, so it is indeed rare.
