I would rather live in KC, MO. KS, KS is crime infested and does not have nearly as much going on as KC, MO. I would rather pay more to live in a better part of town, than to save a few bucks and be bored out of my mind. KC, MO has more to offer. More culture, art, bars, shopping, etc... I would definitely stay out of the burbs in KS if you are twenty something or thirty something and/or single. If you have kids, than go to Kansas and put them in public school there. Unfortunately KC, MO does not have the best public schools. That would be the only reason I would subject myself to live in the flavorless Kansas suburbs. Just my $.02 worth....

Kansas City Kansas does have a lot of crime, there are some very dangerous areas. But, they also have the Woodlands (dog track & simulcast horse races), the KC Speedway and a lot of development going up by there (The Legends - Dave & Busters, good shopping).

The Suburbs - Johnson County, KS (Overland Park, Leawood, Mission Hills, Olathe, Lenexa, Mission, Merriam) is much more family oriented with 3 excellent public school districts, much lower crime rate, better roads and much better maintained city-wise than KC MO or KC KS. Nice reasonably priced homes, Great malls, easy highway access. It also is home to JoCo Community College and soon to the KC Wizards Soccer.

Kansas City, MO has more cultural activities. The Nelson Atkins Museum, The Plaza, Downtown theaters, The Chiefs & Royals (YIKES). The schools are lousy - currently not even accredited. There a small neighborhoods interspersed that are nice, but not nearly as family oriented as JoCo.

Having a family and growing up in the area, Johnson County is where I would rather live as everything else is just a short drive away! You'll like the people here - we're a friendly bunch.

I have lived in Kansas City most of my life. I first lived in Wyandotte county and when I was a teenager, we moved to Johnson County. I like it here and would continue to live on the Kansas side if it was Johnson County. Johnson County has less crime than Wyandotte county. I don't see any benefit of living on the Missouri side except for cheaper gas, but if I want it that bad, I only live 4 miles from the state line and can drive over there to get it anyway.

I would prefer to live in Kansas City, KS and not pay the higher taxes including the 1% earnings tax and the other taxes supporting So called professional sports teams and their rich owners and players and other tourism and sales taxes slush fund and a city Like Kansas City,MO that gives massive tax breaks to a Rich company like Wal-Mart to tear down a complete shopping center(Blue Ridge Mall) and then after ground was broke Wal-Mart announced that they are closeing a even larger store that was a Hypermart not 6 miles away from the new store under contruction.

I would not want to live in either. I have in-laws in both, but if I were sentenced to live in on or the other, I would have to chose the Missouri side. The Kansas side is a pit.

When I lived in KC, I preferred KC MO because KC KS is the ghetto!
If I had a choice between Johnson County (Shawnee, Mission, Roland Park, Merriam) KS and KC MO, I'd choose Johnson County because it's way nicer.

Most people who aren't from the area confuse Johnson county cities as Kansas City, Kansas because it is directly west of KC MO. They are not. They are the suburbs, the metro area. KC KS is slightly northwest of KC MO.
