I can think of only two reasons why a child should have a cellphone. 1) In case of an emergency, 2) The parents can reach their child more easily.
However, I can think of reasons why a child should NOT have a cell phone.
1) The expense does not justify the desire.
2) A child is more likely to abuse the priviledge of having one
3) It is likely only a status symbol amongst your peers, & would not fullfill any practical purpose.
4) It can be more easily lost or stolen in the hands of a child.
5) A young person who is not prepared to take on the expense of a cell phone on their own, is not ready for the responsibility.
6) Most of your time outside of the home should be spent in the classroom, where you won't be aloud to talk on a cellphone anyway.
9) For the few times in your life that you really need to take a cell phone along with you, you can borrow one from one of your parents.
10) You can make, & receive all the calls you will ever need to make from either at home, or from a payphone.
11) Your parents can give you a calling card, so you can reach them from any other phone that's available. A far more practical solution to the two reasons I gave in favour of having a cell phone in the 1st place.
12) You probably already have a calculator, electronic personal organizer, MP3 player, & a computer for sending & receiving e-mails. A TV & extension phone in your room. You already have all of the communication features that are available in a cellphone.

I do not believe there are any specific rules to anyone having a right to a cell phone, a cell phone is considered a luxury and nothing that is needed to live. If a parent is not providing you with, food, clothing, a home, a safe environment etc, then there are laws. A cell phone is on the same lines as an Xbox, no parent is required by law to provide either of those to you. however.... That probably depends on how old you are, and if you're allowed to have contact with your father, if you are living with your mother, and you're allowed to have contact with your father, but your mother tries to keep you from that contact, and the cell phone is to ensure that you are able to talk to your dad, you could probably convince the court that you have a right to the cell phone. ** you should talk to your mothers lawyer about it, and if needed talk to a school counselor about getting a child advocacy lawyer, IF this cell phone is your only means of talking to your dad, or mom, whichever you are not living with. You should let the cell phone go, if things between your mom and dad are ok, and you are able and allowed to speak to both of them when you want to, and you just want the cell phone because it's cool or whatever.

Well, my dad won't let me have a cell phone either. First of all, a reason you would need a cell phone is, possibly, if you're about to be attacked by a stranger, you could quickly dial 911. A reason you wouldn't need a cell phone, is because you might talk to your friends many hours a day, and run bills up high. And besides, they would be buying it for you. Maybe if you bought the cell phone, and paid for the phone bills, they would let you have one.

Because all kids 8 years and older need one for safety! I am a mother of 2, and feel it's important! They can make some rules about what time the phone needs to be turned off and limit minutes other than that there is no reason not to give you a phone.
p.s that is if your a good kid

Convince your parents the benefits of a "pay-as-you-go" phone. Like a "GO" Phone or Virgin Mobile.
They can be used for emergencies.
They are relatively cheap.
You can't run up a massive bill by talking or texting and you can't spend half the day talking on them because they are prepaid.
You got to start off small.
And if your parents still say no, they are the boss; whining and complaining won't accomplish anything.

LOl , i dunno wats ur age????????? But if ur like 16 n above, then hell yes!!!!!!!!u should get a cellphone. Cells r really useful cos if ur in some problem in school or whereever u can easily give ur parents a buzz, n tell them wot ur problem is. I feel they probably think u'll do some crazy things like SMS vulgar jokes n all among ur friends so u shouuld try n reason them outta that belief.
Reasons r............
1. the one mentioned above
2. If u r ever kidnapped, ur parents can find out where u r by ur cell.

I don't know how old you are, but if you drive thats a good reason. If anything happens while you are driving you would be stuck without a cell phone.

say that one day if you get kidnapped you won't have a cell phone to help you. that one worked for me. also say you won't use up many minutes. a reason to have cell phones is so you can call in emergencies.
