what about laugh?

Amy--smile--day two. Tried to laugh--about three weeks.
Seth--smile--day three. Tried to laugh--about two months
Angel--smile--day two. Tried to laugh--about two weeks.
Ezra--smile--day two. Tried to laugh--about one month.

All four babies were watching me smile at them when they copied my smile. All four babies also were being laughed around with the family and held when they tried to laugh too. They also still smile and laugh a lot today, though Ezra smiles and laughs less. Seth smiles and laughs often, but is also very serious, choosing when to do both more often than spontaneously doing so.

Old timers will say babies have gas and aren't smiling or laughing, but it's simply not true. Parents have more time to play and pay attention to their babies nowadays, and notice more than just gas or belly aches.

Besides, everyone who's met my babies loved their smiles back then, loves their smiles now. :-)

My daughter has been smiling since the day she was born. She was trying to laugh at 2 months, but acutally giggled at around 2.5 months.

my baby use to smile all the time, but it was probably because of gas or whatever, I could tell his real smile at about 7 weeks, because he used his whole face.. he's so cute, and he laughs in his sleep, and he's just now at 2 months started to squeal! He's so adorable!!

There have been pictures published of fetuses smiling while still in the womb. They start to laugh at around four months.

When the nurse handed my baby girl to me for the first time, she smiled at me as I smiled at her.

Mine isn't even born and smiles... I know because she smiled on the 3D/4D ultrasound...
Right before she smiled:

Starting to smile:

but thats probably because she farted. :D But then again, I was laughing about something my husband said right at that moment and perhaps she smiled because I was.... I'm not really sure...

BOTH my babies smiled from birth.
it was NOT gas, who the flip smiles then?! they were always in response to being talked to, smiled at, etc.
first one laughed around 3months, second is 3months and still does the silent belly laugh. it is SO cute tho!
