Are you talking about mass or currency?

Currency - 1 pound = 100 pence

Mass - in the imperial system, 16 ounces = 1 pound
14 pounds = 1 stone
2 stones = 1 quarter = 28 pounds
4 quarters = 1 hundredweight = 112 pounds
20 hundredweight = 1 ton = 2240 pounds

There are (at least) 3 systems of 'basic' units.
mks (meter, kilogram, second) now called SI
cgs (centimeter, gram, second) now obsolete
British engineering system (foot, pound, second) also becoming obsolete

All other units (like horsepower) in those systems are combinations of the 'basic' 3.
